  • Grid community awards

Our grid community awards scheme helps areas affected by the water supply grid programme with funding for environmental projects.

It provides a cash boost to groups seeking to improve the environment and wildlife in areas that run along the water supply grid.

Similar to our long-running Wessex Watermark Award, we are working with the Conservation Foundation, whose panel of experts judge all applications for funding.

Community organisations, charities, schools and local groups can apply for up to £2,000 for projects including pond restoration, tree planting, conservation areas or nature reserves.

Groups, organisations and community initiatives throughout Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset can apply for the awards scheme if they fall within the area covered by the water supply grid scheme.

This may include along the pipeline route, which will transfer water from the south of our region, in Dorset, to Salisbury in Wiltshire via Blandford and Shaftesbury, or the various new sites for storage tanks and other grid infrastructure throughout the three counties.

    In 2016-17 awards helped to:

    • restore a historic pond in Dorchester
    • supported the Wiltshire Bat Group to buy new monitoring equipment to study a rare species of bat.

To see if your organisation is eligible for funding and to download an application form please see related downloads on the right.
