About the Wessex Water Foundation
Launched in summer 2020, the Wessex Water Foundation provides funding to projects which bring people together and build stronger communities. Working in partnership with the Community Foundations across our region, the foundation has already supported a variety of groups in our local communities.
Immediate support during the pandemic for local groups
In response to the Covid-19 crisis, we donated £120,000 to local Community Foundations' emergency appeals to provide immediate support to local groups in the summer 2020.
These funds have helped contribute towards a wide variety of community projects and charities across the area we serve.
These include a community fridge project to help feed local people in Bournemouth, a community money advice service to help people facing a drop in income in Wiltshire, virtual and in-person equine-assisted therapy sessions for young people and adults struggling with isolation in Somerset and a charity that distributed activity packs to isolated families in Weston-super-Mare.
In addition to supporting our local community foundations’ emergency appeals, we have also:
- provided over 12,500 hot meals to vulnerable and isolated people in Bath
- supported many of our staff volunteering in their communities.
Wessex Water Recovery Fund in 2020
The Recovery Fund was set up to respond and support groups as a result of the impacts of coronavirus on local communities in autumn 2020.
Grants from this fund were distributed to a wide variety of projects across our region, including new community fridges, counselling services, gardening projects and nature camps for young people. In total, the fund supported 85 groups with grants totalling £175,000 and we will be sharing stories of their work over the coming months.
