Appointing someone to manage your account

You may need to appoint someone to manage your financial affairs including your water and/or sewerage account.

A serious illness or living abroad are just two of the reasons why you might need to appoint someone.

There are three different options and the one you choose will depend on your needs and circumstances.

The options are:

  • a nominee – if you register with Priority Services you can appoint someone to deal with your water and/or sewerage account
  • lasting power of attorney (LPA) – this gives someone legal authority to manage your finances. For more information visit the Office of the Public Guardian website: www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney
  • deputyship – if you do not have an LPA but can no longer manage your financial affairs, the court of protection can appoint a deputy. Find out more at the Office of the Public Guardian website: www.gov.uk/become-deputy

If or when you have an attorney or deputy appointed, they can manage your water and/or sewerage account provided we have received a copy of the documentation issued by the Office of Public Guardianship.

If you have created an online account for the lasting power of attorney we can access these details online if you provide the unique code when you contact us.

Do not send original copies as we cannot guarantee safe return. 

Please note we do not need to see documents if you would like to make a payment on behalf of a customer. You need their name and account reference number only.
