Rock Community Centre

We talked to Ash Hughes, Centre Manager at Rock Community Centre, who explained the important role the community centre plays in the lives of local people.

Tell us about the Rock Community Centre

At the heart of Lawrence Weston in Bristol is the Rock Community Centre. Open since 1990, it provides a range of community-led activities for local people.

It has a particular interest in residents' health, wellbeing and community cohesion, especially for older people and those with a disability.

Why did you need support?

Over the past eighteen months, the centre has experienced a significant increase in utility costs, which has put a strain on our budgets.

This increase meant we needed to source funding to continue providing all our activities.

How will the grant support you?

The grant of £4,000 from the Community Fund will help us meet these costs for the upcoming year and without it, the centre would have had to scale back its activities, potentially affecting a significant number of people.

We will now be able to continue to provide its daily services and activities, such as the weekly lunch club, healthy eating classes, exercise classes and walking groups.
