Serving Bristol, Avonmouth is our biggest water recycling centre (sewage treatment works).
Your visit to Avonmouth will give you an insight into how sewage is treated and how water companies fit into the natural water cycle.
You will also learn more about the challenges posed by climate change to water supply and sewage treatment and how Wessex Water helps to protect the environment through the work we do on site.
You can also discover the impact to the environment and the recycling centre when non-biodegradable items such as fats, oils and grease (FOG), are flushed into the sewer system and how Wessex Water and other water companies are dealing with these issues.

Visits to Avonmouth are suitable for pupils in year nine and above. If it’s not possible to arrange a site visit, Sue or one of our education advisers could visit your school.

Directions: From the M5 roundabout at Avonmouth, head north along St Andrews Road. At the second set of traffic lights, turn right in Kings Weston Lane. Drive for one mile before turning left into the works. Entrance through signposted gate A.
